Back in 2006, I went on a trip to Australia with Contiki. If you haven’t heard of them yet, they’re a company that organizes tours for people from 18 to 35 years old. They put out the best itineraries possible and arrange transportation, lodging and a few meals, and we just have to enjoy our time! We also have to choose which excursions we want to do. They set out a range of options, and we decide based on our interests, and price!
One excursion I wasn’t sure about was a three days and two nights on a sailboat. It was a little expensive for my budget at the time. But at the same time, it looked quite amazing. In the end, after thinking about it for a while, I decided to go on that excursion.
And I did not regret it!
We spent our time sailing around the Whitsundays Islands on the east coast of Australia while enjoying the beautiful weather, the beautiful sights that the islands had to offer and the delicious food cooked by our on board chef! Yup, we had a chef on board! Well… Maybe a cook, but his food was good! In total, we were 21 on the ship. 18 of us, plus the cook, the skipper and the captain. We all helped with the sailing at one point.
On our first full day on the boat, we stopped at this place and got ferried to the shore by a zodiac, not really knowing where this would get us. I remember they told us that the view from the other side was gorgeous. A view of Whitehaven Beach…
I’m all for a gorgeous view. So I didn’t mind the snakes while climbing up the hill.
So while getting to the top, I was really wondering what kind of view we would have… I think I was not disappointed. I mean, look at that! Turquoise water making its way through white squeaky sand. It doesn’t get much more beautiful than that. This is Whitehaven Beach. Part of the Whitsundays Islands in Australia. I was blown away. It’s for a reason that this beach often appears in lists of the most beautiful beaches of the world. It’s because it’s gorgeous!
Can you find the catamaran on this picture? I wouldn’t mind switching places with him!
After some picture-taking, we headed back to our sailboat and they took us to spend the afternoon on the beach. It has white squeaky sand and is absolutely awesome. I don’t think I could’ve had a better day, seeing that beach and spending time on it.
Whitehaven Beach is only accessible by boat, so you will need to arrange some kind of a tour to get to see it. Fortunately, Contiki had it all set up nicely for us so we didn’t have any planning to make. If you’re interested about Contiki, check out my links on the following page: Cool Products
